Papa Roach have been through some difficult times and would like us to know about them. For their eighth studio album, the multi-platinum nu-metal/rap rockers take a confessional approach. Even the disc’s title, a tepid acronym for “Face Everything And Rise,” implies a spiritual rebirth through self-examination. While the lyrics’ message remains praiseworthy, the group’s uplifting stance feels aimed inward, leaving the audience behind. And although the whoosh of their titanic crunch will ably grind your gears, just 10 tracks mean they’ve come up short. – Andy Kaufmann
