Heartbreakers’ guitarist Mike Campbell and his band the Dirty Knobs played the United Theater on Broadway (formerly the theatre at the Ace Hotel) in Downtown L.A. on December 11th. This was the last of a short run of five acoustic shows which included Santa Barbara, Las Vegas, El Cajon, and San Francisco. Campbell played guitar alongside Tom Petty in Mudcrutch, followed by the Heartbreakers until Petty’s passing in 2017. The Dirty Knobs formed in 2001 and the current lineup includes bassist Lance Morrison (Don Henley/Alanis Morrisette), guitarist/keyboardist Chris Holt, and fellow Heartbreakers member drummer Steve Ferrone. This two hour show included 19 songs consisting of deep cuts, rarities, and hits like “Refugee,” “ Here Comes My Girl,” “Only the Losers,” “You Wreck Me,” and a cover of Travelin’ Wilburys “Handle With Care.” This was a night of storytelling in addition to the music.
