The Smiths
Louder Than Bombs (Sire)
Alternative-indie artist Devon Thompson told us about her love for a Smiths comp.
Devon Thompson: My favorite album of all time is probably Louder Than Bombs, a compilation album by The Smiths.

This is a no skip album to me, it’s so significant. So many influential songs like “Half a Person”, “Panic”, “Heaven Knows I’m Miserable Now”, and “Back To The Old House” are on that album. This was such a hard decision to make because I’m such a big fan of all of their albums. A very close second was “The Queen is Dead”, but I ultimately chose the album I listen to most.
There is something both so raw, yet polished about “Louder Than Bombs”, a perfect combination of the two. On the melancholic side, “Please Please Please Let Me Get What I Want”, “This Night Has Opened My Eyes” and “Unloveable”, are nothing short of perfection. Then there’s songs like “Girl Afraid”, “Panic”, and “William, It Was Really Nothing” on the more upbeat, fast paced side.
I have an infinite number of great things to say about this album, it’s truly shaped who I am and my musical influence. There is a special magic about The Smiths, something I can’t quite put my finger on. Whatever it is, whether its Marr’s addicting guitar lines, or Morrissey’s haunting voice, it’s truly special.
