Album Review: Carly Rae Jepsen - E•MO•TION (7/10)

Album_Carly Rae Jepsen_Aug2015With her third studio album, Canadian pop sweetheart Carly Rae Jepsen delivers an ode to ‘80s pop music, especially in the instrumentation of synths and infectious drum beats. Undoubtedly, Jepsen has crafted an album embedded with catchy bubblegum pop tunes that will get stuck in your head while you’re soaking up summer sun by the pool. On the other side of the coin, the songs sound too similar to one another and are marred by trite lyrics—minus one notable gem: “All That,” a tender, sensual piano ballad that gives us an overdue glimpse of the artist maturing into womanhood. Score: 7 out of 10
