Album Review: Social Cues By Cage the Elephant (8/10)

"A mature perspective on the ups and downs of their rock & roll fame."

Alt-rockers Cage the Elephant are back with Social Cues, their fifth studio album. The band trades their rambunctious/youthful material and delights us with a mature perspective on the ups and downs of their rock & roll fame. Fresh off a divorce, we immediately find a moodier and vulnerable tone from frontman Matt Shultz, especially on the single “Goodbye.” The band give fans exactly what they want by maintaining their bluesy, garage-rock roots (“Dance, Dance”). They do occasionally spice things up with elements ranging from art-rock/pop to post-punk and manage to deliver another knockout album.
