Hit the Decks! It's MXGPU

Moullinex of electronic duo MXGPU started making music in his teens.

"Just messing around and posting unofficial remixes on MySpace, that’s how it all began," he says. "One of my first big breaks came when I did a remix for Cut Copy. Funny enough, they actually rejected it at first, so I put it online for free... and it blew up. It even hit number one on Beatport, which totally changed everything for me. After that, more remix requests came in for artists like Sébastien Tellier, Röyksopp, Robyn... It just snowballed. Before diving into music full-time, I was deep into science. I studied software engineering and later did a master’s in brain-computer interfaces. I even did research in neurology and astronomy in Germany for a while. But music kept calling me back."

"In the late 2000s, I teamed up with my friend Xinobi, and we started our own label, Discotexas," he added. "This gave us the freedom to release the kind of music we loved. Since then, it’s been a ride with albums, tours, collaborations, and it’s always evolving. Music’s always been a place where I could bring all my many interests together: science, art, emotion, technology; it’s all connected."

"I started producing music when I was 12, using Reason and watching my older brothers having fun with music on the computer," says his partner GPU Panic. "I was listening to artists like LTJ Bukem, Chemical Brothers, and Basement Jaxx, which definitely shaped my early taste. Around the same time, I was playing guitar in indie rock bands and doing my first shows. Eventually, local promoters started inviting us to DJ at parties, and by the time I was 18 or 19, it began to feel more serious. A few years later, GPU Panic became my main project. In 2016, I was ready to fly to Mars- restless, electric, chasing something bigger. That’s when I joined Moullinex’s live band on guitar and backing vocals. The chemistry was instant. From there, we dove deeper into co-writing tracks that would later land on Hypersex and Requiem for Empathy."

"MXGPU came out of a deep artistic connection that started around 2016," they both say. "Over time, our collaborative process became so seamless that it made sense to create a shared identity; thus, MXGPU was born in 2025. It’s not just a fusion of our names, but also a concept: a joined creative force that explores sound, light, and performance as one."

Of the MXGPU sound, they say, "We created MXGPU as a space where both our worlds could collide, a place where emotion meets power, and the club becomes something more than just a dancefloor. Our sound is rooted in electronic music, but we’re constantly reaching beyond it. It’s a mix of indie dance, techno, and raw, experimental energy. We’re drawn to contrasts. Light and shadow, digital and human, beauty and chaos. Every track is an attempt to explore transformation: how sound can shift you, wake you up, take you somewhere else. There’s often a tension in what we make, but also a deep desire to connect, whether that’s through a brutal drop or a fragile vocal line. Our live shows are an extension of that vision, not just performances, but full-body, immersive experiences. Lights, visuals, sound. All of it is designed to pull you into the moment. We don’t want to just play at you; we want to dissolve the boundaries between us and the crowd. At the heart of MXGPU is a commitment to movement, to breaking molds, and to crafting something that feels both powerful and real."

Of their latest releases, they say:

EASE (March 28)

"Our first recent release — ‘ease’ — was where the journey began, in a collaboration with Malou. Gentle in name but powerful in delivery, it introduced the tone of MXGPU’s new era: cinematic, intimate, and beat-driven. Released alongside a limited-edition vinyl, ‘ease’ marked the start of our 2025 tour and merch collection, connecting our audience to a sound they could hold."

THE FALL (April 25)

"‘the fall’ changed everything. It’s the track that defined MXGPU’s sonic identity — raw, unexpected, and completely our own. This wasn’t just a song; it was the moment we became MXGPU. Backed by animated visuals, stripped acoustic versions, and deep fan connection via live chats and behind-the-scenes breakdowns, The Fall set a new standard for how we share music."

TAKE ME HOME (May 30)

"Is the most requested, most emotional track yet. ‘take me home’ brings it all full circle. Built with care and space, it’s a release about longing, belonging, and finding your place. This one arrives with a surprise: the official announcement of our debut album, landing September 26. If ‘ease’ was the introduction, and ‘the fall’ was the awakening, Take Me Home is the heart."

As for gear: Moullinex says:

Roland SH-1000 – Vintage mono synth with character. My favorite!

Roland System 100m + Eurorack – Modular setup for deep sound design.
Korg Mono/Poly – Versatile and rich-sounding.

DSI OB-6, Oberheim OB Xa – Modern vs Vintage analog beasts. Big, expressive, unapologetic.
Soma Lyra-8 and Pulsar 23 – Weird, wild, and super inspiring. All over our records!

Ableton Live – My main DAW for everything.
u-he Diva & Hive – Amazing analog-style soft synths.
Silver Bullet – Adds analog warmth to mixes.
Event Opal Monitors – Super accurate studio monitors.

GPU Panic says:

Ableton Live - the easiest way to get the ideas out of my head 🙂

Arturia Minifreak - one of the most powerfull and portable polysynths with a huge amount of wild and creative possibilities and combinations.

Sequential Take-5 - Another great synth, warm and still portable.

Apple Airpods Pro - Really a great tool to work fast when you just want to get the laptop on, open ableton and draft some music. Good companion on planes, trains, cars and my kitchen.

Upright Piano -  There’s one on the studio, and sometimes it’s the easiest way to work on harmony and melody. We have one from the 80’s that we found someone online trying to get rid of it because it wasn’t beeing used and it’s probably one of the best bang for the buck that i’ve ever found in my life. Lovely and warm sound.

Moog Subphatty - It’s always perfect on every mix. There’s not much you need to stay after this. Amazing synth.

Looking ahead, the project has plenty planned for the second half of 2025.

"The album we’ve poured everything into lands this September. We’re bringing it to life across Europe, Asia, and our first-ever US shows coming in October. Then more remix. We’re filming a live concert that means the world to us. Playing, experimenting, and connecting through full live shows and hybrid DJ sets. It’s the kind of year we used to dream about. And now it’s happening. We can’t wait to share it with you."
