A Cappella and YouTube artist Peter Hollens has launched his “December Song” cover contest. He invites fans to sing in the holidays with their version of “December Song,” Hollens’ original tribute to the season. This contest will see who can give Hollens and a panel of judges the best cover of the song, one of the tracks on his latest release, A Hollens Family Christmas.
Hollens and the judges will select 10 submissions. He will offer the top video a flight out to his studio in Oregon, to star in an upcoming video. The top 10 videos will be combined into a mashup video, to be featured on Hollen’s channel. There will be other prizes, too, from coaching sessions to CD bundles. Full guidelines and prizes can be found here.
“I’m so psyched to get my fans and supporters involved, and to give back to them,” he says. “I think this is the perfect time of year to shine a light on all the amazing voices out there.” Submissions can be sent via video response to Hollen’s video. Videos will be accepted until Dec. 9 at 11:59 p.m. Winners will be announced Dec. 16.
The only rule for the contest: You must submit a cover of “December Song.” Otherwise, “There are no rules. You can do whatever you feel. Go crazy!” Hollens emphasizes. Hollens will post parts as videos to his YouTube channel to help contestants.
Peter Hollens currently has more than 1.5 million YouTube subscribers and a network of support on Patreon. Without the help of major label deal Hollens took his classical training and created a media business and keeps his fans at the heart of what he does.
“I love this music and I loved adding my own song to the mix,” he says. “At their core, holiday songs embody peace, love, unity, family, community, hope, new beginnings and appreciation for the things we often take for granted. These are values that resonate with people all around the world, from all backgrounds and walks of life.”
