Hit the Decks! It's Limbo Slice

Electronic artist Limbo Slice started creating about a decade ago, after a few years of diving into the world of electronic music.

"I listened to lots of Skrillex, Knife Party, and Deadmau5, and was curious about how their sound was made," he says. "Then I naturally picked up Ableton, then I kept going. I wanted to be this superstar DJ like a dream every teenager has, but I noticed all of them had their own original music, at least to some degree. Limbo Slice is my first project that I took seriously. Not too long after I started learning how to produce music, I found artists such as Rezz or Gesaffelstein, which struck me. It inspired me to find my own sound. A couple years after, and tons of demo tracks being sent to so many labels, in 2019, I released my first single ever, 'Confess.'"

Limbo Slice says that his music is a mixture of styles, depending on the song.

"Commonly, I would say it's a mixture of electronic body music, industrial, with a bass music background, and maybe a hint of metal," he says. "I find similarities between the music that I really enjoy listening to, and I try to blend them all."

His latest release is "Fragment."

"'Fragment' is to me, at the moment, the strongest color of Limbo Slice," he says. "From the soundscape, groove, and the energy, it has sonically the most accurate picture of who I am and how I view those similarities between different styles of music that I like. High contrast of energy and spatial feeling, from cinematic to this huge, in-your-face synth riff that reminds me of metal guitar riffs, change of rhythms at different sections… everything. It represents my identity as an artist very well. It just sounds like me."

As for gear: "Ableton is my best friend. A lot of my projects run mostly by basic ableton plugins, but Serum 2 is inseparable, just like many other electronic music producers. I recently started using guitar amp simulation plugins on my synth for the texture, and it works like magic. I recently moved to London from Seoul so I have a small setup. I use a small Genelec 8010A that I do use mainly, but I switch to headphones, earpods, and iPhone speakers often to check compatibility."

Looking ahead, Limbo Slice has plenty planned for 2026.

"I have the biggest collaboration in my career coming up, so I am very excited for it," he says. "I had almost a year and half of no music until this one, so I intend to put out a lot more music this year. I have a few original singles on the way, and some interesting collaborations as well, which is a very early stage so I cannot guarantee when it will be out. I think I do have a pretty solid style when it comes to visuals, so I intend to keep doing that. In terms of musical styles, I will be experimenting with various styles, while maintaining my identity. I cannot wait to show them all."
