BMI, Amazon and Erika Vidrio Present "El Camp: Las Compositoras"

BMI (Broadcast Music Inc.) has presented the first edition of “El Camp” alongside Amazon Music and Erika Vidrio, founder of the collective Las Compositoras. As an award-winning songwriter and the most recorded female artist in the regional Mexican genre, Vidrio led the exclusive all-female song camp in Los Angeles, highlighting the impactful and powerful voice that women bring to the genre. The three-day event focused on the art of songwriting and provided a space for collaboration between an eclectic ensemble including Silvana De Cajiao, Ivonne Galaz, Angelica Gallegos, Lupita Infante, Victoria La Mala, Adriana Ríos, Nancy Sanchez and Lili Zetina.

“El Camp: Las Compositoras highlights BMI’s commitment to providing visibility and platforms to our songwriters who proudly represent the musical richness of Mexico’s various regions,” said Teresa Romo, BMI’s Director of Creative—Latin. “Together, with our partners we’ve created a unique experience, which validates the importance of female songwriters and the need to build a creative community of camaraderie, so there is equitable representation.”

The song camp provided an opportunity for the songwriters to work together creatively and produce new songs for potential future placements. As the presenting sponsor, Amazon Music sat down with the participants to discuss their art, dreams, inspiration and much more. Supporting sponsors included GibsonKRK, and Universal Audio. Each participant received a Gibson guitar, KRK speakers and headphones, and an audio interface and microphone courtesy of Universal Audio to support the songwriters in their creative journey.

“Thanks to the alliances and support of these companies, we are creating a path for women songwriters so that their voices receive the attention they deserve, and we reach our common goal of generating equal opportunities within the regional Mexican genre," said Erika Vidrio.
