Portland’s Dying Wish get heavier—while also more vulnerable—with their second full-length. At times there’s an intentionality behind multiple rhythm guitars competing for your headbanging attention (“Symptoms of Survival”), while other tracks slip into the metal-core melodies we’re accustomed to. My only complaint is the track order: most of the catchiest bangers on the album are placed on the back half. Either way, these new songs are going to punch you square in the teeth before inviting you to two-step.
