Blake Christiana of roots rockers Yarn told us about his Gibson love...
Blake Christiana: My dad gave me his right handed 1964 Gibson B25 acoustic guitar over 20 years ago.
At the time he gave it to me, I lived in New York City and my guitar guy, Manny who worked over at David Gage in Lower Manhattan, got it all set up as a lefty. He put on a new bridge, nut, frets and bracing. He even put new lacquer where the pick guard was supposed to be so I wouldn't put a hole in it like Willie's Trigger, even though I asked him not to. Had he not done that I might be playing a different acoustic these days.
My father bought it brand new back in the '60s, which makes this guitar 100% irreplaceable already. But on top of that, this guitar sounds incredible just direct into a PA, mic'ed or plain old acoustic. It needs no EQ, it never feeds back, it is the absolute most perfect acoustic guitar. I mainly play a Custom Gibson ES-335 hollow body electric guitar these days, but in the middle of every Yarn show I pick up my Gibson B25 and play two songs solo and acoustic.
Every night I get at least one person who can't believe how good the guitar sounds, more often than not it's the sound engineer who says it. Thank god for my Gibson B25, I most definitely can't live without it.
Yarn's "Never Enough" is out now.
