The Melvins recently played a sold-out show at the Troubadour in Los Angeles, CA. The supporting acts were Redd Kross and Toshi Kasai. This event was a reunion show for all 3 bands. In particular, the Melvins and Redd Kross have not shared the stage in a couple of decades. Dale Crover and Steve McDonald sat in for Redd Kross. Toshi Kasai, who also has a long history with the Melvins and Redd Kross, opened the show. Toshi has been a music producer and engineer for the Melvins, Redd Kross, Foo Fighters, Tool, Nirvana and Big Business, to name a few.
To be completely honest, seeing the Melvins at the Troubadour was a first for me. I have no good excuse as to why, but rest assured I will not miss another show! I am now officially on the Melvins bandwagon. Their set at the Troubadour was at full throttle from beginning to end. There were a few comments made at the show about how tight their sound was and I have to agree. The amount of talent between all the members was obvious, and the power behind each musician was unapologetic. The Melvins current line up is Buzz Osborne on guitar, Steve McDonald on bass guitar and Dale Crover on drums.
