Pop artist and virtuoso pianist Micah McLaurin told us about his Lady Gaga experience...
Micah McLaurin: The most memorable concert I’ve ever attended was Lady Gaga’s Chromatica Ball Tour.
I went in both London and NYC, so I saw it twice. I was immediately drawn in by the suspenseful intro, with dissonant techno music, and a video of Lady Gaga in black and white with a sort of demonic silhouette. There were tritones in the music, and it was a real experience where you were just on edge. Then she went into “Bad Romance,” which was the perfect release of that suspenseful energy. It’s definitely my favorite song of hers. She always performs well, but this show was so well planned, had a real arc, and kept me engaged from beginning to end.
It was inspiring for me as a musician, composer, and performer to see her creating a whole world the fans could live in with so many creative layers. The performance was so cohesive and a reminder to me that works of art and performance should always have that captivating quality and tell a story from beginning to end, without being arbitrary. It’s something I strive to do with my music and performances as well.
