“Formed in Seattle in 2007, Paula Boggs Band has spent nearly two decades walking the long American road—not chasing trends, but gathering stories,” reads the Paul Boggs Band’s online bio. The latest album, which dropped in March, is Sumatra, and it includes 10 examples of just these great musicians can do with said gathered stories. The title track feel deeply spiritual, Boggs’ voice sparing over some wonderfully restrained musicianship. “Soulgrass” is a great description of these soulful, rootsy, and authentic tunes, with “Airline Boogie” able to get the most stubborn toes a-tapping.
