Style: Blues Rock
Chicago quartet The Empty Pockets promise “stories and sounds without borders,” and credit where due, it certainly seems like they are taking their own winding road. Take “Serrated” off their latest album Dear Billionaires (due October 23): the tight instrumentation screams classic blues-rock, yet the vocals almost lean into theatrical performance art.
The two stylistic choices clash rather than collaborate, making for an awkward, disjointed listen. The instrumentation says one genre, the vocal delivery says another, and the two never quite shake hands.
There’s clearly talent in the room—it just hasn’t agreed with itself yet.
