Prolific pop artist and virtuoso pianist Saint Micah told us about his love for a Gaga classic...
Saint Micah: My favorite album of all time is probably Lady Gaga The Fame Monster. There’s so many hits on it, but my personal favorites are “Bad Romance,” “Alejandro,” “Poker Face,” “Just Dance,” and “Paparazzi.” I think it’s pop perfection and the choruses always come slamming in and feel so earned; there’s always a lot of tension before them, so they feel extra special. The choruses really lift and feel like magic. I’m inspired by the incredible songwriting and production on it. It’s a benchmark work for me. It’s one of my holy grails of pop music.
She lived her album in real life, and watching her treat leaving a hotel as a performance was exciting. She treated every moment like a spectacle. She and her creative team really elevated the music through the visuals in a way that I think changed pop culture. Suddenly, everyone was upping their game on the red carpet and with their outfits.
The Fame Monster also had music videos that were life changing and so memorable and told stories that I’m still trying to analyze today. I love that you can interpret the meaning of her work in so many ways. When I first heard her music, I got butterflies in my stomach the same way I got them when I heard ABBA when I was younger.
