Carly Simon
Anticipation (Elektra)
Hard rocker, author and wine maker Lisa Dominique told us about her love for a Carly Simon classic...

Lisa Dominique: I was 13 when I first discovered this album one rainy afternoon in Yorkshire. I had a day off school with a miserable cold and decided to root through an old box of records my brother, Marino had left behind after he'd moved to London with his band. That's when I came across the Carly Simon Anticipation album. I remember how much I loved the cover. The blue tone and metallic sheen that made the colors shift depending on the angle and lighting. The photograph of Carly Simon looking amazing in a flowing sheer skirt, high boots and winged blouse, standing wide in the middle of the wrought iron gates, looking like a lioness guarding her space. I couldn't wait to listen to it. I remember rushing back to my bedroom, closing the door, putting it on my record player, sitting on the floor and waiting for the first track to begin.
Anticipation -- First came the crystal clear acoustic guitar followed by the pure bliss of Carly Simon's voice. It wasn't like any album I'd heard before. The untainted warmth and production of each song felt personal. It was as if she was right there in front of me singing each song just to me. I played that album over and over that day, and by the following day, I'd taught myself to play Anticipation on my acoustic guitar. That summer became my Carly Simon summer, sitting in the garden, strumming my guitar, singing, writing songs and poetry. I was a wild at heart teenager that had found her own space whenever I needed it.
Anticipation was one of those albums that grows with you. It became my immortal friend, forever there. I've always loved lyrics that relate to all our dreams and experiences in one way or another. Anticipation - Its message of romantic uncertainty. The importance of staying in the present and not overthinking gives that magic. Words that never stop growing with us, powerful reminders as time goes by. "Stay right here, because these are the good old days." Every song on this album resonates with us all. The song "Summer's Coming Around Again" -- Another dream-like melody that drifts you into a nostalgic mix of happy and sad emotions, some that can only be understood later in life, but at the same time touches your soul when you're young.
Being an author, an artist and a songwriter, this album forever grows in my garden of life.
Lisa Dominique will be releasing a special anniversary limited edition of her Gypsy Ryder album this fall.
