My Favorite Album: garbagebarbie Talks Gorillaz, Coltrane, and More

L.A. DIY rockers garbagebarbie told us about their various album preferences.

Gorillaz

Demon Days

Anson Knopp (bass): This album is one I find myself listening to at least once a week. The narrative of the songs as well as the artwork and world that Jamie Hewlett made with Damon will always be inspiring to me. It really helped nurture a great sense of creativity when it comes to constructing art that can spread across multiple mediums all at once.

Foster The People

Torches

Dan Karasev (drums): I don’t know if I could say I have an all time favorite album, but Torches by Foster The People is for sure in my top 5. Kinda feels timeless to me. It was one of the first pieces of music I started listening to in high school that has shaped my music taste as an adult. I fell in love with their catchy pop melodies over the bed of indie music all the while keeping lyrics meaningful.

John Coltrane

A Love Supreme

Fletcher Milloy (vox/guitar): This is a record I’ve enjoyed during every emotion of life. It’s always been extremely grounding for me, something I can always learn from or have playing in the background. The performances, the purpose, the spirit behind it. It’s a record that feels greater than just music. It’s 32 minutes that transport me somewhere else whenever and wherever I listen to it.

Chet Baker

Chet Baker Sings

Braedon Huff (guitar/synth): This record is so important to me for so many reasons. It was shown to me by someone I love and appreciate very much when I was in high school. It evokes so many different emotions, both happy and sad, and all the musicianship on this record is like nothing I’ve ever heard. This was the first record I ever bought for myself on vinyl. I make it a point to listen to it every holiday season no matter what.
