Louis Tomlinson at the YouTube Theater

In the 80’s there was New Kids on the Block, and the 90’s came the Backstreet Boys and *NSYNC. In 2010 Harry Styles, Louis Tomlinson, Niall Horan, Liam Payne, and Zayn Malik were all competing individually on X Factor and later as a group which won third place the seventh season. Just a year later the group released their first album “Up All Night,” on Simon Cowell’s label Syco Records. One Direction became one of the most commercially successful groups worldwide starting with the fastest selling debut album in 2011 which also debuted at number one the Billboard 200. Two of their four tours were all stadium shows. They were the best selling artist world-wide in 2013, and then in 2014 had the 15th highest-grossing tour of all time which was also the biggest selling tour for a vocal group. Malik left the group in 2015 and in 2016 the group took an indefinite hiatus. One Direction accomplished all kinds of success under 30 with the members being around 25 at the time of breaking up.  All five members went on to have successful solo careers. Tomlinson embarked on a three month tour all across North America  starting on February 1st. The tour came to a close with two nights (3/12 & 3/13) at the new YouTube Theater in Inglewood, CA which is connected to SoFi Stadium, home of the Super Bowl winning Los Angeles Rams. Sun Room was the opening group.

Tomlinson released his debut single “Just Hold On” at the end of 2016. In 2018 Tomlinson returned to X Factor as a judge for season 15 the show’s final season. After several hit singles, Tomlinson released his debut album in January 2020 titled Walls which made the Top 10 in five countries. Tomlinson was just 2 shows into his world tour in support of Walls before having to cancel all dates when the Covid-19 Pandemic began. Tomlinson’s set list consisted of 18 songs, three of which were One Direction. It was easy to see the enthusiasm from the fans there, which were a mix of younger fans that may not have seen One Direction and fans that were around when they were one of the biggest groups worldwide. It was easy to see the crowd knew every song. The opening song was “We Made It,” followed by One Direction’s “Drag Me Down.” The three song encore consisted of “Only the Brave,” “Through the Dark,” and “Kill My Mind.”

Tomlinson has been nominated for 16 awards seven of which he one including an iHeartRadio Music Award, Teen Choice Award, and TDY Award.
