Hit the Decks! It's Bruno Furlan

Brazilian electronic artist Bruno Furlan says that he started DJing when he was a child.

"My father was a DJ and met my mother at a party, that’s crazy I know," he says. "All our friends were involved with music doing birthday parties and stuff. So, I would spend many weekends playing with vinyls, cds, listening and playing all types of music, but always had a special emotion for electronic. After the years we started going to random parties that had local DJs who played more underground music. I just loved it!"

"When I was around 14/15 years old (2010) I decided to buy a laptop and try to produce my own music. The challenge? I didn’t know english at this age and had absolutely no tutorials for nothing. So it was harder. I was working and studying. I woke up at 5am and arrived at home around 11 p.m. and would then start producing some music. Everyday!"

"In 2013 I heard 'The Clapping Track' by Claude Vonstroke and at this moment I figured out what kind of music I really want to do," Furlan continues. "I was in LOVE! After two years playing in small and random parties for free, taking the subway to go to the shows and stuff (with my parents of course, I wasn't +18) I made my first 'good' music called 'Blow Minutes!' I sent to many labels and all said that the track wasn’t good and I will never release that. Well, after many months during my job I just received Vonstroke mail saying that I would love to release it on Dirtybird 10 years compilation of the label (2015). I was sure that it could change my life if I dedicate myself to music. And here I am now. More than 20 tracks on Dirtybird and counting.

In describing his sound, Furlan says, “I got that style, and I got the groove.”

That stye and groove can be heard on new release "Meet Me."

"It really describes myself and my influences," Furlan says. "Percussive, Brazilian drums and instruments, big grooves, involved vocal and chopped loops, 90’s synths and details and powerful drops. I love to do a mix of old school style with today's groove, it’s blown in every party and speaker. I was vibing a lot doing that EP!"

As for gear: "I started with a really really bad notebook in 2013 or less. I was producing with the old headphones from phones, or using some radio speaker that I had at home. I have been using that setup for many many years. I still don’t have a big studio but the gear looks so better today. I use an IMAC M2, pair pioneer monitor VM50, Komplete Audio2 and a Minilab3 keyboard. It’s not about the gear, it’s about art!"

Looking ahead, Furlan has plenty planned for 2026.

"I expect one of the biggest years of my career, I cannot drop many spoilers. I have many releases coming and a lot of shows across the globe! Meet me on the dancefloor and I'll show you how to move!"
