Rock 'n' Roll, make room as the Hip Hop Hall of Fame Awards Television show returns in May 2014 celebrating Hip Hop Appreciation Week. This is the first rebroadcast of the show since it aired on the BET Cable Network in the 1990s. It was created and executively produced by Chairman JT Thompson in the early 90s as the fundraising catalyst for the development of a Hip Hop Hall of Fame Museum & Entertainment Complex that's moving forward on its Midtown Manhattan location. Proceeds from the show will be utilized to open a temporary Pop-Up Hip Hop Museum in Harlem to serve as the Hip Hop Hall of Fame welcome center for visitors with administrative offices, content production studios and a display gallery with 100 exhibits, memorabilia and artifacts. This is a precursor to the main 50,000 square feet facility that will open in the next 18-24 months after final design, development and construction is completed. "This is just the beginning of things to come for the Hip Hop Hall of Fame in preserving and celebrating hip hop music & culture," stated Easy AD, a co-producer-curator and member of the Cold Crush Brothers.
The Hip Hop Hall of Fame is preparing to send out invitations to music artists, executives, record labels, sponsors and celebrities to participate. Special notifications are being sent to the nominees for Induction, and the final 2014 Inductees list will be announced at a special invitation only VIP Industry, Artists and Partners Mixer in late March. The awards show will feature celebrity hosts, and include presenters from the music, film, sports, television, fashion, business, local community leaders and cultural & educational institutions from around the world. It will also have a collection of hip hop artists from its pioneers of the 70s, 80s, 90s and present day artists performing their classic hits, and the Inductees close the finale. "We are excited to be making hip hop history bringing back the awards show that I participated in during the 90s," stated DJ Lord Yoda X of the Crash Crew and the Zulu Nation a co-producer of the event.
