Album Review: Eric Paslay

Eric Paslay • Self Titled • EMI Records • Producers: Marshall Altman, Daniel Hill, Billy Lynn • Score: 8/10

A co-writer on the No. 1 “Barefoot Blue Jean Night” for Jake Owen, Paslay has penned songs for Eli Young Band, Lady Antebellum and others. “Keep on Fallin’” fires up his debut, and he hoists a beer with his Top 10 hit “Friday Night,” (previously recorded by Lady A and featured on ESPN). Little Big Town is on hand for “Country Side of Heaven,” and the singer uncorks sensuality with “Good With Wine.” “Less Than Whole,” co-written with and previously recorded by “Big” Kenny Alphin, reflects a contemplative theme echoed in “Deep as it is Wide.” These benevolent songs enrich Paslay’s collection with spiritual substance and soulful satisfaction. – Dan Kimpel
