My Favorite Album: Agnes Obel Journeys to Plantasia

Mort Garson

Mother Earth’s Plantasia (Homewood Records/Sacred Bones)

Agnel Obel told us about her love for a Mort Garson gem...

Agnes Obel: My favorite album, across time, is Mort Garson’ Mother Earth’s Plantasia or how I’ve come to know it, Plantasia, from 1976.

It is an instrumental (performed on a Moog synthesizer) album written to plants to facilitate their growth and happiness . Interestingly it has the same effect on me. I’ve listened to this album for so many years so I don’t remember how I came across it. Over the years I have begun to implement its main idea (of trying to make plants grow) when I have worked with synths.

For me this makes perfect sense, especially when working with synth arpeggios and synth build ups the sense that you and the synth are helping a little living organism with growing and blossoming in to itself.

Agnes Obel's album The Meaning of Flowers, is out now.
