Hit the Decks! It's 4000Hz

Paris-based producer and DJ 4000Hz started producing music around seven years ago, before he got into DJing.

"I was so obsessed with making music that I would sometimes skip school just to spend entire days producing at my best friend's place," he says. "DJing came a little later, around five years ago, and naturally became another way for me to express what I was making in the studio. Things started getting more serious when my tracks began receiving support from artists like I Hate Models and Amelie Lens, and I started getting opportunities to play outside France. Over the past couple of years, everything has accelerated, with releases on labels like Teletech and upcoming ones signed on Armada Music and A State Of Trance, and performances at events like Parklife, Teletech Festival and The Warehouse Project."

Regarding his sound, the artist says that he started out producing hard techno, before gradually moving towards a more bouncy, uplifting and feel-good sound.

"More recently, I've been trying to bring these two worlds together, combining the raw energy and intensity of harder music with the playful, bouncy elements that define much of what I do today," he says. "What I really enjoy is the contrast between these different influences. I love making tracks that are powerful, uncompromising and sometimes quite dark, while also exploring more melodic, emotional and uplifting sounds. I don't want to limit myself to one particular genre or mood. For me, it's all about finding that balance between intensity, energy and emotion, while developing a sound that people can recognize as my own."

His latest release is the "Hot Sensation" track on Teletech.

"[It's] a track that really represents the direction I've been exploring lately," he says. "It's energetic, playful and built around that balance between bouncy grooves and rave-inspired sounds. It was also a pretty special moment for me when Novah played it on Tomorrowland's Mainstage this summer. Seeing one of my own productions reach a stage like that was something I definitely didn't expect when I first started making music in my bedroom."

As for gear: "I recently made quite a big change to my studio setup by selling all my hardware and switching to a fully in-the-box workflow. I now produce entirely in Ableton Live 12 on my MacBook Pro, using an Apollo Twin X audio interface and Genelec 8030 monitors. I used to love working with synthesizers and drum machines, but I've realized that I'm much more productive without them. Since making the switch, I've been finishing significantly more tracks. It might make the creative process a little less playful at times, but having fewer distractions allows me to focus on what actually matters to me: making music and, most importantly, finishing it."

"For DJing, my setup includes two Pioneer CDJ-3000s, a DJM-V10 LF mixer and a pair of Technics SL-1210 MK2 turntables. I also use Beyerdynamic DT-990 Pro headphones in the studio."

Looking ahead, 4000Hz has plenty planned for the coming months. "There's quite a lot happening at the moment. I've been working on new music with Armada Music, including a release planned for A State of Trance, which is a really exciting step for me. I'm also working on developing a stronger and more recognizable artistic identity, both musically and visually, to make the whole project feel more cohesive and distinctive."

"On the touring side, things are moving pretty fast, especially in the UK, where I've been building a strong connection with the scene. I have five Teletech shows in November alone, including performances at iconic venues like The Cause in London and The Warehouse Project in Manchester. I'm also getting the chance to discover new cities, with upcoming shows in Hamburg and Prague, where I'll be playing on New Year's Eve. Overall, I'm really excited about what's coming next. My main focus is to keep releasing music, exploring new places and building something that feels more and more like my own."
