Tokyo-based DJ and producer DJ MII says that she started DJing because she's always loved the energy of music and the connection felt on the dance floor.
"Before getting into bass music, I actually listened to a lot of rock," she says. "I’ve always loved the sound of guitars, and that influence still inspires my music today. I enjoy blending heavy bass with guitar elements to create something powerful and energetic. At first it was just for fun, but once I started producing my own tracks and playing them in my DJ sets, things became much more serious. Seeing people react to my music made me realize that this is what I truly want to do. Since then, I’ve been performing regularly in Tokyo’s club scene and continuing to develop my own sound as both a DJ and producer."
DJ MII describes her sound as, "heavy, energetic, and built to hit hard on the dancefloor. I love combining aggressive bass, powerful drops, and catchy hooks to create high-energy moments. Before getting into bass music, I listened to a lot of rock, so guitar-driven intensity is something that still influences my style today."
"For this release, I focused purely on the kind of dubstep I truly love," she adds. "It’s actually the first time I’ve created a track fully centered around that sound, and it’s something I’ve always wanted to do. This track really represents the direction I want to push my music toward — powerful, high-energy, and made for the dancefloor."
That latest release is, “Break Your Neck,” released on Monstercat.
"[It] is a high-energy dubstep track designed for the dancefloor," MII says. "I wanted to create something powerful but also very clear and impactful when the drop hits. The drop is simple and direct, so it’s easy for everyone to feel the energy and just start headbanging together. That shared moment on the dancefloor is exactly the feeling I wanted to capture with this track."
As for gear: "In the studio, I mainly use FL Studio and Ableton Live for producing," she says. "I like using both because each DAW helps me approach ideas in different ways and keeps the creative process fresh. For DJing, I usually play on Pioneer CDJs with Rekordbox. I prefer keeping my setup simple so I can focus on the music and the energy of the crowd."
Looking ahead, DJ MII has plenty planned for 2026. "In the coming months, I’m planning to release more music and continue developing my sound, mainly focusing on dubstep," she says. "I also hope this release will be a chance for more people to discover Mii as an artist. With summer coming up, I’m excited to play more shows and festivals. I’ll also be bringing powerful sets to my resident clubs, ATOM TOKYO SHIBUYA and ATOM TOKYO SHINJUKU. My goal is always to turn up the dancefloor and create those moments where the drop hits and everyone starts headbanging — the kind of energy that makes you feel like you might break your neck."
