WFIT 89.5 FM radio station is looking for its next garage band from the Space Coast for its 2018 garage band contest.
The station "wanted to give new bands a chance to break out and show us what they got," said Todd Kennedy, WFIT's program director. "Not all bands can afford a recording studio and expensive cameras. But, most young people have an iPhone, which can make pretty good videos with a simple app."
To enter, submit a video of your "garage" band performing one original song. Music must be original and not covers.
Last year's contest was limited to students, but this year it's open to bands beyond Florida Tech.
The winning band will be announced on the air at noon March 16, with an invitation to perform live from WFIT. In addition, the band will win recording time in the WFIT studio and stage time at the second annual Sonic Waves Music Festival on April 14 at Intracoastal Brewing Co., 652 W. Eau Gallie Blvd., Melbourne, in the Eau Gallie Arts District.
The free concert, considered to be WFIT's listener appreciation party, will feature four other local bands.
How to enter
To be part of WFIT's 2018 garage band contest, upload a performance video with no restrictions (copyright music, views set to public) to YouTube through March 9. Complete an entry form found on wfit.org, and send a high-resolution band photo (no live shots).
