Louisiana’s Ensilenced are a sturdy, no-nonsense foursome who have learned well from the masters, namely Metallica/Machinehead. With growling vocals and chugging riffs, the too-long “Curse” and “Break Me Down” are pretty standard, fairly hooky metal. The standout is “Friend of No One” with its infectious swagger and an interesting arrangement that is more intricate and complex than the other songs. That said, Ensilenced have a ways to go. On record, this band feels like they don’t actually have a bassist or drummer and just throw on a quick program to “fill the void.” An important element of a metal band is a drummer who can bring the energy. Lars wasn’t the best drummer, but he always made his presence known! These tracks just have far too simple and repetitive drum licks!
