Jake Etheridge of rising duo Thelma & James told us about the Gibson that is equally special to bandmate MacKenzie Porter...
Jake Etheridge: About eight years ago, I spotted her hanging at Carter Vintage Guitars here in Nashville. I couldn't stop thinking about that guitar. I'd keep going back just to play it again, until one day I finally took her home.
For Thelma & James, she's been a bit of a lifeline. Every song we've written together started on this guitar, and every song on our record was recorded with it.
She's got a slight buzz, and the low E string only just manages to stay in tune but somehow that's all part of the charm. She's still got plenty to say.
There's just something about an old guitar that comes through on a record. You can hear it.
Thelma & James' "Home in Your Broken Heart" is out now.
