Felipe Cantuaria and Ricky Feria of Denver-based six-piece soul group The Hip Snacks told us about their PRS and Fender love...
Felipe Cantuaria: I can't live without my PRS Custom 24! I've been playing this guitar for around 12 years, and at this point it's an extension of my body. I've owned a lot of instruments and no matter what, my Paul Reed Smith remains at the top of the list. Playability from the first fret to the 24th is flawless, and the sound and sustain are just gorgeous.
We haven't even gotten to how amazing this guitar looks! If anything inspires me, it would be this guitar just staring at me from across the room - I can't help but pick it up and play! Another item I can't live without is my Mutron Envelope Filter. Although it gets used rarely in an average set, it is my absolute favorite effect. I'd say it is almost always on my pedal boards. If I need a smaller rig, it still makes its way to the set!
Ricky Feria: My usual rig for playing in The Hip Snacks starts with my Fender Telecaster which has a very unique set up that includes a Stratocaster neck and Seymour Duncan Hotrails humbucker with a 5 way switch that includes some out of phase single coil options.
I run it through a hybrid paddleboard that includes some of my favorite petals, going into my Neural DSP Quad Cortex Digital FX Station. From there, I run it into two options. Option A is into my Mesa Heartbreaker 2X12 Combo amplifier that I’ve had with me since 2016. Option B is for when we don’t use an app on stage. In this case, I run out of my digital effects station to the front of house.
The Hip Snacks' album Out On A Limb is out now.
