The Darkness played the Wiltern Theater in Los Angeles, CA on November 12. Back in March they released their eighth album, Dreams on Toast. The Darkness was founded in Lowestoft, England 25 years ago and initially existed for six years before taking a five-year hiatus and reuniting again in 2011. The original four members—Justin Hawkins (lead vocals/guitar), Dan Hawkins (guitar), Frankie Poullain (bass), and Ed Graham (drums)—were together until 2014, with the exception of Poullain being out a year. Rufus Tiger Taylor, son of Queen drummer Roger Taylor who also toured with Queen, became the group's third drummer in 2015.
The show opened with “Rock and Roll Party Cowboy” from their new album. They played 17 songs total. There really is nothing like a Darkness show, they bring a fun '80s vibe and, simply, the band is great, the songs are great, and they leave the fans wanting more. The last song before the encore was “I Believe in a Thing Called Love.” The two-song encore consisted of “One Way Ticket” and “I Hate Myself” which is the second track on the new album.
