Self-proclaimed "pop star for freaks" Magdalene told us about her Madonna experience...
Magdalene: The best show I’ve seen would of course have to be the Madonna Celebration tour at Madison Square Garden. My mom has ingrained Madonna worship into me since I was a kid, and she has inspired me and my art beyond words. I knew that Madonna had been struggling with health issues that year so I went into the show knowing it was going to be amazing because it's Madonna, but not fully knowing what to expect from her performance. That woman served the most insane show I will probably ever see. Her vocals and presence were so undeniable I was mesmerized from beginning to end. Not only were the sets and costuming insane, but the story, the skits and the theater incorporated into the show is something that I don’t think any other artist has been able to replicate. Every dancer felt like their own individual character. It felt like a community on the stage.
Madonna is a pop artist that has always kept her finger on the pulse in the underground and brings a punkiness to the mainstream that is so sick and has inspired my project a lot. I think that pop music dies when artists aren’t staying involved and locked in to the underground scenes bubbling beneath the surface. It’s the reason Madonna has pushed culture forward and been capable of making amazing and relevant albums for 40+ years. That show opened my eyes to the type of humanity and theatrics that I hope to bring to the stage for my shows. Madonna is the one and only!
