Randy Bachman

Randy Bachman at The Troubadour

Rock legend Randy Bachman wasn’t just part of one major band, but two. Between Guess Who and Bachman-Turner Overdrive (BTO), Bachman has quite a catalog of songs to choose from at his shows. His show at the Troubadour was unlike anything I've experienced before. This was my first time seeing Bachman and it was a fantastic way to see him. Bachman’s set included songs of his new album By George by Bachman which celebrates what would have been late Beatles member George Harrison's 75th birthday. He also performed classic Guess Who and BTO hits. Along with Bachman was his son Tal, who performed his number one hit (Billboard Adult Top 40) “She’s So High.”

Bachman opened the show with a tribute to Harrison consisting of “Between Two Mountains,” “If I Needed Someone,” and “You Like Me Too Much.” The next part of the show was comprised of Guess Who hits including “These Eyes,” “No Sugar Tonight,” and “American Woman.” Following the Beatles’ “While My Guitar Gently Weeps,” Bachman kicked off the BTO part of the show with “Roll on Down The Highway,” and followed with “Let It Ride.” Bachman ended on “You Ain’t Seen Nothin’ Yet,” before coming back out for an encore of “Taxman” and “Takin’ Care of Business.” The best part of the show were Bachman's personal stories where he explained in detail how some of his biggest hits with The Guess Who and BTO came to be, coinciding with his the name of his tour, Every Song Tells a Story. Opening the show was guitarist Philip Sayce who joined Bachman for a few unforgettable guitar duels.

I highly recommend By George By Bachman for any Beatles, Harrison, or Bachman fan.
