Position Music has added another fast-rising hitmaker to its roster, announcing a new global publishing deal with Toronto-born singer-songwriter Alexander Stewart. The signing arrives at a pivotal moment in Stewart’s career, as his emotionally charged pop anthems continue to rack up over a billion streams worldwide and earn him a spot among Spotify’s Pop Rising Artists To Watch.
Stewart’s latest album, What If?, has further cemented his ascent, landing on notable release lists at both NPR and Stereogum. The project’s momentum carried him straight to daytime television with a stirring performance of “The Way A Heart Breaks” on The Kelly Clarkson Show, a clip that is now circulating widely on YouTube and quickly becoming a fan favorite.
Position’s leadership was quick to underline why Stewart stood out among a crowded field of developing artists. “He has such a powerful and unique voice that he could sing anything and it would sound amazing, but what really sets Alexander apart is his tremendous songwriting that takes his artistry to an elite level," said President Mark Chipello, adding that the company is “excited to walk alongside him in this next chapter.”
That sense of excitement is echoed on the creative side as well. A&R executive Shannon Corsi described their first meeting as unmistakably transformative: “There’s an intensity to his energy that's impossible to ignore—you just know he’s destined to win on a global scale.” For Stewart, the feeling appears mutual. “I instantly felt their support,” he shared. “I have so much respect for them as an independent company being an independent artist myself and am very much looking forward to what’s to come.”
Long before What If? landed, Stewart had already built serious momentum with his debut album bleeding heart, anchored by the viral breakout “i wish you cheated.” The song exploded past 45 million views on TikTok, a rare moment where brutal honesty and pop sensibility collided at the perfect cultural moment. That surge led directly to a late-night TV debut on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon and an awards-season snowball: a Viral Song Award win at the SOCAN Awards, plus his first-ever nominations at the MTV VMAs and Canada’s JUNO Awards.
If Stewart’s digital success built the spark, the road has helped turn it into a full-scale blaze. He previously joined tours with Benson Boone and Charlie Puth, sharpening his live presence in front of massive crowds. Now, he’s carrying that momentum on his own as the headliner of the What If? World Tour, currently making its way through Europe and the U.K., with North American dates set to launch in February.
The new publishing partnership signals a deeper investment in Stewart’s songwriting future—one that positions him not just as a performer, but as a long-term creative force in pop’s next wave. With Position Music’s global sync and publishing reach behind him, the next phase of Stewart’s career seems poised to stretch well beyond the streaming charts and onto screens, stages, and soundtracks worldwide.
