An NYC duo with back-to-basics values, the Falling Birds have a firm grip on the stripped-down, amped-acoustic, alt- roots-rock sound and give it a thoroughly modern edge. “Cinders In The Breeze” is a good example of how much they can do with simple tools––electric guitar, basic percussion and harmonica. Singer Stephen Artemis has a pitchy, punk-fueled vocal style that somehow works with the band’s rootsy, ramshackle attack. “Let’s Rewind” impresses us with a high-energy guitar squall that achieves plenty of authentic feel. The duo’s most commercially appealing tune “Anything Worse,” with its effective vocal harmonies, has strong film/TV “party scene” potential.
