“Born in Damascus, emerging from Montreal, Anour is a singer-songwriter who channels her reflections on modern life into cinematic pop songs that feel like lucid dreams,” reads Anour’s online bio. That’s a great description too.
There’s a dreamy quality, the cinematic thing that she’s talking about, that recalls the likes of Shakespear’s Sister and even T’Pau. “I Am” is playful, toying with a cabaret vibe that one could image Liza Minnelli wallowing in.
“Maybe I’m Crazy” is epic, and simultaneously heartbreaking. In both theme and vibe, it recalls Queen’s “I’m Going Slightly Mad,” and that’s no bad thing.
