New Music Critique: Little Sandwitch

Femme rockers Little Sandwitch do a solid job of recapturing the spirit of their ‘90s era grunge sisters (such as Bikini Kill) with a studied attack that delivers downstroked guitars, beefy drums and vocals tailored to inspire a whole mess of folks to raise fists and sing along. “Glass Hole” features an eerie, high-pitched whistle-vocal to a snarling song whose guitars have a sinister, Black Sabbath vibe. The confrontational and defiant “Make Me Cry” features the line “My eyes are dry and it kills you.” The band’s most effective song, though, is a slice of lighter fare, “Maybe,” whose combo of sweet voices, bubblegum melody and a big beat add up to something cohesive and commercially appealing.
