New York-based alternative/indie artist Mechanical Woman told us about her love for a Sylvan Esso gem...

Mechanical Woman: There are several albums that have made their impact, but this one all its own. Allow me a moment to paint the picture, of a young 20 year old, smoking cigarettes and running from stage to stage on the concrete grounds of a Chicago music festival. Drawn to the chaotic energy of youth and play, I stood amongst a sea of other twenty something year olds, all drowning out the brutal Chicago winds through live music. Suddenly, what felt like the sun, “Die Young” begins to play, and the world stood still, or so it seemed. The crowd shifted to shared state of blissful authenticity. Everyone was truly present, swinging to the dancing rhythms of Amelia Meath and Nick Sanborn.
The album ‘Sylvan Esso’ by Sylvan Esso is a continuous wave of rhythm and play that truly moves you as you move with it. Each song balances hard and soft sound; melodic vocals somehow swimming gracefully within a synth heavy rhythm. The entire album, an experience.
I was a young woman figuring out what to do and where to go next in life, and there it was right in front of me. A moment which captured the essence of the album from this perspective; A sound which values human togetherness. It’s exciting. It’s passion in a bottle you just have to drink it, and for whatever reason, you just know you can trust it. If soul mates could be a sound, it’s these two artists congruency- this album you come back to time and time again. That’s why it’s one of my favorites- an unrequited love.
Mechanical Woman's album Voice of an Old Soul is out now.
