Meltt Can't Do Without Their Ableton Echo “Tape Reverb Space”

Alt-psych rock quartet Meltt told us about their Ableton love...

Meltt: We hummed and hawed over what piece of gear we couldn’t do without. We’d love to say some cool effect pedal or sentimental guitar, but the honest answer is Ableton.

We use it every day when writing and recording, and use it at every show. It could really be any DAW, I suppose, but Ableton is just the one we chose early on, and we haven’t looked back since.

Even their stock plug-ins can be really good. One we keep going back to is the “Tape Reverb Space” preset on their Echo; it’s actually been used on a decent number of tracks on our albums. For our live shows, we don’t bring any hardware synths with us since the sounds can be so varied across the songs, so we use the Ableton sampler/drum rack to switch between sounds on our midi keys, as well as processing vocal effects and running some synth tracks when we’ve run out of hands, and it’s absolutely necessary. It’s hard to imagine how we would pull off the show otherwise!

Meltt's album Pathways is out June 12.
