One of the hottest country tours of the year stopped at the Five Point Amphitheater in Irvine, CA on Aug. 24. Five-time Grammy Winning trio Lady Antebellum and Darius Rucker-- front-man of the multi-platinum group Hootie and the Blowfish-- joined forces on the Summer Plays On Tour.
Rucker --who had two Grammys and two number 1 albums in the U.S. with Hootie and the Blowfish-- played a set of mostly solo songs like “Homegrown Honey,” “Radio” and “Come Back Song.” He also performed Hootie and the Blowfish hits “Let Her Cry” and “Only Wanna Be with You.” Rucker also threw in a cover of Old Crow Medicine Show’s “Wagon Wheel.”
Lady Antebellum closed out the show. From platinum-selling albums to multiple Grammys and CMA awards, Lady Antebellum has had many major accomplishments in just a little over a decade since their debut. They played well-known hits including “Need You Now,” “Just A Kiss,” and “We Own the Night.”
The show didn’t just stop after Lady Antebellum’s set. Rucker joined the group for Hootie and the Blowfish’s “Hold My Hand,” a cover of Deana Carter’s “Strawberry Wine” and finished with the Lady Antebellum hit “Love Don’t Live Here Anymore.”
The tour ends on Oct. 6 in Bristow, VA.
