It doesn’t seem to matter how many times you experience KORN live, the law of diminishing returns just does not apply to the heavy rock hitters—each show is seeing them for the first time.
KORN's The Serenity of Summer 2017 U.S. Tour, presented by Live Nation, left their mark on the bursting-at-capacity Mattress Firm Amphitheatre in Chula Vista, California. The celebrated tour is in support of KORN’s latest and twelfth studio album, 2016's The Serenity of Suffering, released via Roadrunner Records.
Teaming up with KORN, and performing on all dates, are special guests and fellow Roadrunner recording group, Stone Sour. The Grammy Award-nominated alt-metal quintet is touring behind their eagerly awaited sixth studio album, Hydrograd, scheduled for release on June 30. To quote lead singer, Corey Taylor, “I’m really excited—this album is great because it’s got elements of everything—all the great amalgam of music.” He added: “It’s the best stuff that we’ve ever written.” (“Song #3” is currently the No. 1 Active Rock hit in the country, marking the fourth time Stone Sour have topped the Active Rock song charts.) Hydrograd is available for pre-order at the band’s website.
The outdoor amphitheater, bursting at capacity, was overflowing with energy, excitement, and electricity as the multi-platinum two-time Grammy Award-winning KORN took the stage, capturing the spirit of rock without limits. Their aggressive music coupled perfectly with their set’s light show and fog floating eerily across the stage enhancing the crowd’s live experience.
The secret to KORN's success: Never lose your humanity. Larger audiences don't mean less attention. No matter the size of the crowd, they view each person as just that: a person—not an auditorium. KORN has earned real influence with their fans by finding ways to connect in authentic, personal ways—meeting people in person and building relationships. Everything else to KORN is just a farce.
KORN's performance was palpable and inspiring, proving, once again, music is the great unifier—people treating other people like human beings. Sometimes it takes a rock concert to realize how extraordinary your life is and how free you are.
On the road with KORN and Stone Sour for the first half of the tour are Japan's female-fronted pop-metal group BABYMETAL, nu metal band, Islander, and rapper, Yelawolf. Opening for the second half of the trek will be Yelawolf, Christian rock band Skillet and nu metal band, Ded.
