Hit the Decks! It's Reifier

Multidisciplinary electronic producer Reifier says that she was born into an unconventional family.

"My father was a mime, my mother a theatre director, and my older siblings were already musicians when I was born," Reifier says. "So at the age of four I said I was going to dedicate my life to theatre and music, and that never changed. I started taking singing and piano lessons as a child, and during my teenage years I became more involved in songwriting and composition."

"However, I started music production more recently. The pandemic was the push I needed, as I was part of a band at the time and, in order to keep sending them ideas and compositions, I had to learn how to use a DAW more effectively. That’s when I discovered my love for music production, and I haven’t stopped doing it or learning ever since."

The artist says that it's difficult to describe her sound.

"I’ve always tried not to over-rationalize it or confine it to a specific genre," she says. "I prefer each track to find its own shape, without imposing predefined rules, allowing the creative process to be intuitive rather than strictly planned. If I had to define it, I’d describe it as experimental electronic music, where digital elements coexist and contrast with more organic ones. My voice often plays a central role, not only melodically but also as a textural element, and I frequently incorporate sounds created from materials like water, paper, or fire. I use these as raw material to build soundscapes, textures, and even instruments, treating them as the starting point for each piece."

"I’m also interested in breaking away from conventional rhythmic structures. I enjoy working with irregular time signatures and uncommon meters—such as 11/4 or 5/4—not from a technical standpoint, but as a natural way to support the emotion and narrative of each track. Overall, my music lives somewhere between the electronic and the human, the experimental and the emotional."

Reifier's latest release is the EP The Unfolding.

"The Unfolding is my first EP as a solo project, and I think of it as a living archive of a very specific period in my life," she says. "It’s a body of work that was created over time and grew alongside me as I was moving through different personal, emotional, and identity-related processes. Unlike my previous work in bands, which was often built around pre-defined concepts, this time I wanted the process to be freer and more intuitive, allowing the music itself to lead the way."

"The EP moves between dreamlike, surreal soundscapes and more intimate, grounded moments, reflecting the way dreams, memory, and everyday life constantly overlap. Many of the songs began as sonic explorations—improvisations, unusual textures, and nontraditional sounds—and only later revealed the emotions and narratives they were carrying."

"At its core, The Unfolding is about self-discovery and transformation. It explores identity, vulnerability, and the process of learning to inhabit my body and my inner world with greater freedom. My hope is that the EP becomes a companion for listeners, inviting them to project their own experiences onto the music and to find their own meanings within it."

As for gear: "My main working instrument for this record was Ableton Live, along with Ableton Push, since most of the instrumentation was created entirely in the box. That setup allowed me to experiment freely with structure, texture, and sound design throughout the process."

"In terms of hardware, the synthesizer I used the most was the Arturia MicroFreak, which became a key source of inspiration for several tracks. For virtual instruments and sound design, I relied heavily on Phase Plant, Noisy 2, and Massive X, which gave me a wide palette of textures—from more organic and experimental sounds to heavier, more synthetic elements."

Looking ahead, Reifier has plenty planned for 2026.

"Over the coming months, I’ll be performing live in Mexico City during the first part of the year," she says. "Since I work between Mexico and London, I’m planning to tour in both places, with shows in England and across different parts of Europe over the summer to continue promoting the EP. At the same time, I’ll be focusing on writing and producing new music, with the goal of releasing more material in the near future."
