Hit the Decks! It's Born Dirty

Forward-thinking DJ and producer Born Dirty started DJing in 1998.

"Mostly techno and hip-hop, then I started producing in 1999 on a Macintosh Quadra with Logic (can’t remember which version)," he says. "It was always serious though, I was already a musician and gigging since I was 13. It always felt like my path… my calling."

Born Dirty says that describing his sound is incredibly difficult. "My influences are so vast, from moody movie soundtracks to Leonard Cohen to Miles Davis to the Wu or Aphex Twin, etc," he says. "I guess my sound is a hybrid of all the music I love. There’s hints of techno, garage, breaks, house, tribal, grime. I never really know where my music sits. A blessing and a curse."

His latest release is "Trippy Boys Trippy Girls."
"It was composed with my boy Linden Jay about 10 years ago or so," he says. "We were writing a lot of forward thinking stuff at the time and this one landed pretty fast. Once we had the music, it really gave us a Chemical Brothers vibe, so the vocals are kind of an homage to them. That tune’s been a weapon in my sets ever since, so it’s mad it’s only coming out now… but it also makes perfect sense that it’s coming out on Dirtybird."

As for gear: "Hardware: Focal Trio 11 BE, Yamaha NS10s, Moog Prodigy, UDO Super 6, Korg Poly-61, UAD LA-610, Apollo x6, Technics 1210, guitars, basses, drums. Software: tons of VST synths (Arturia, TAL-101, OPUS, Kontakt) and countless plugins. Headphones: Audeze LCD-X."

Looking ahead, Born Dirty has plenty planned for 2026.

"Right now I’m mainly in the studio working on a lot of music and multiple projects," he says. "I also have a company with my music partner Aurélien Rubod called Bleue, where we compose for ads, films, documentaries with clients such as Netflix, HBO, BMW, Jordan (Nike), to name a few. I’ve got a track on In / Rotation (Insomniac) coming out next month with my amazing friends RaeCola, and a few releases after that on my label Way Way Records. Planning to drop music pretty much every month this year!"
