Congratulations Henry, Sam, Robert and Alessia

Alumni Henry ‘Cirkut’ Walter co-produced and co-wrote the Best Urban Contemporary Album Grammy winner ‘Starboy’ by The Weeknd. Harris Alumni Sam & Robert Geronco co-produced and co-wrote Best New Artist Alessia Cara’s Platinum album Know It All.

John Harris was presented with the Cashbox Legacy Award for lifetime contributions to the Canadian music industry by Cashbox CEO Sandy Graham. He thanked Dan Broome for MCing, Lisa Hartt for a moving performance and “mom and dad, who are up there, for everything”. For cover story click here.

Congratulations Alumni

Harris Alumni were nominated for eleven JUNO Awards in 2018 for Single of the Year, Artist, Group, Songwriter, Country Album, R&B Recording, Recording Engineer, Instrumental Album, World Music Album and Contemporary Roots Album of the Year. Alumni won ten JUNO Awards in 2017.

Congrats Faculty & Alumni

In 2018 Harris Faculty and Alumni were involved with Leonard Cohen’s Tribute on CBC, Neil Young’s concert from Omemee, Shania Twain’s Grey Cup half-time show, Gord Downie’s JUNO winning Secret Path album, The Weeknd’s Grammy winning Starboy album, The Tragically Hip’s Canadian Screen Award winning CBC broadcast and Grammy winning Alessia Cara’s Know It All album.

Ranked Best for 6th Year

For a 6th year Harris Institute was ranked best private school in the Media Arts Education Report. The Report states, “It’s a powerful little institution giving it the edge. Harris institute is the best school of its kind in Canada. Highly Recommended”.

Two Legends

Doug McClement’s panel of evaluators for the final presentations by students in the Audio Production Program included legendary Producer/Engineer Eddie Kramer who recorded Jimi Hendrix, Led Zeppelin, The Beatles, David Bowie, and The Rolling Stones.

Alumni Featured on CBC News

Allyssa Rawes, Jasleen Kaur, Alyssa Ayaka Ichinose and Hannah Rae were featured in a CBC News item in the lead up to the 2018 JUNO Awards in Vancouver. The report looked at women making changes in the Canadian music industry.

Congratulations Emilie

Harris Alumni Emilie LeBel was selected by the Toronto Symphony Orchestra and Sir Andrew Davis as their new Affiliate Composer. LeBel’s compositions have been performed/recorded across North and South America, Europe and the UK. Her first work with the TSO will premiere in January 2019.
