BMAC Provides Students Invaluable Opportunities at Maymester Music Business Accelerator at TSU: Today, the Black Music Action Coalition (BMAC), in partnership with the Commercial Music program at HBCU Tennessee State University (TSU), Music Makes Us, and the Recording Industry Association of America®, concluded the third annual Maymester Music Business Accelerator at TSU. For the past three weeks, BMAC offered TSU students invaluable access to leadership, mentorship, and career resources to help them break into the music industry.

“Over the course of the Accelerator, I’ve watched these students immerse themselves into a wide range of disciplines in the music industry and engage with some of the most powerful players in the game. BMAC is proud to serve as the pipeline for opportunities, resources and mentors for the next generation of Black artists and music industry executives,” said Willie “Prophet” Stiggers,BMAC Co-founder, President & CEO.

Led by GRAMMY®-winning Professor Larry Jenkins Jr., this year’s impactful lineup of guest artists and speakers included: Flavor Flav (Hip-hop legend / Rock & Roll Hall of Fame inductee), Kaliii (GRAMMY Award-winning Artist), Daisha McBride (Musician / Songwriter), Connie Diiamond (Musical Artist), Tariq Cherif (Co-Founder/Co-CEO, Rolling Loud), Shawn Gee (President, Live Nation Urban), Sierra Lever (Head of Hip-Hop/R&B, Amazon Music), Mark Cheatham (Co-head of Global Hip-Hop/R&B Touring, Creative Artists Agency), Swaggy Sie (Host of SiriusXM’s The Heat and Hip-Hop Nation), Mitch Glazier (CEO of the Recording Industry Association of America®), and more.

This year’s programming also featured takeovers by some of music’s biggest record labels and companies including Apple Music Pathway, Atlantic Records, Def Jam Recordings, SiriusXM, Live Nation and more.

BMAC opened doors for the students by providing them with life changing exposure and exclusive opportunities to help them achieve long-term results as they continue their journeys in the music industry. Highlights included:

  • Shawn Gee, President of Live Nation Urban, announced that Live Nation Urban, in partnership with BMAC, will provide this year’s class the opportunity to produce a live concert. Students will work in tandem with Live Nation Urban’s production, booking, marketing and ticketing teams to plan and facilitate every aspect of the show. The proceeds from the show will be donated to the Music Accelerator Program.
  • On talent buying and event promotion day, students participated in a music festival planning competition, and the winners won an all-expense-paid VIP trip to Rolling Loud Miami.
  • For the Apple Music Pathway education lab, the cohort participated in an immersive experience centered on Spatial Audio with Dolby Atmos. This technology is revolutionizing how listeners experience sound, making it a crucial area for creators to understand and master. The program provided participants with a competitive edge and the ability to create more immersive and innovative work. By equipping these talented individuals with knowledge of Dolby Atmos, this program has helped democratize cutting-edge technology and foster diversity within the industry.
  • The class was also invited to attend rapper, singer and songwriter Gunna’s upcoming concert in Nashville, as well as next month’s Bonnaroo Music and Arts Festival.

“I went into this completely unknowing about the music industry. During the first week, I got a crash course of everything. It blew my mind, but I felt more well-equipped to have these conversations and be in the rooms that I was in. I’m coming out on the other end very excited about what the future has to hold,” said Morgan Craver, class of BMAC’s Third Annual Maymester Music Business Accelerator at TSU.
