Hit the Decks! It's Raw Main

French producer and DJ Raw Main says that he started on his DJ path when he was 18 years old.

"I got a job during the school holidays, and with my first paycheck I bought a pair of vinyl turntables," he says. "That’s where it all started. Today I’m 40 years old and I’m still here. As for music production, I’ve always been attracted to computers, and my first music project happened around the same time. By mistake, my brother bought a music software called eJay “Rave eJay”. That’s when I discovered how to make music, then I followed with Reason, Cubase, Protools and Ableton Live. It’s quite hard to take it all too seriously. We play music in front of people, we create music… sometimes it doesn’t feel that serious, like a classic job, but I put all my heart into it because I’m truly passionate about it. I’m one of the lucky people who gets to do what they love and fully live from it."

Regarding his sound, Raw Main says that his music, "is full of melodies, harmonies and emotions. It also has to be groovy, because we make people dance. Shake it and you have a fresh squeezed Raw Main’s track."

His latest release is the Theory of Love EP.

"The voice on the track 'Theory of Love' is mine," he says. "It was supposed to be for someone else, but i decided to keep it. My Raw voice gives contrast to the track. I spent four months working on this EP. What stands out the most is the musical diversity across the four tracks. They are all melodic, but each one is different. The track I worked on the most is the one with the singer Anvia. We worked on this project, 'Right Side,' for several months. We probably went back and forth five or six times, and it was actually the first time I ever finished a track with a singer. It truly felt like a team effort."

As for gear: "I work with a new gear called Hapax from Squarp Intrument since almost a year and it’s clearly a game changer. I did all the EP with it, it’s a midi sequencer, and it gives you 1000 ideas per sec. It’s really made for composer."

Looking ahead, Raw Main has plenty planned for the second half of the year.

"The tour is moving forward nicely," he says. "This year, there are many new places where I’ll be playing, and I’m really excited about discovering new dance floors between Europe and America."
