Michael R. Dudley Jr. Wins Charlie Parker Jazz Composition Prize at 36th Annual BMI Jazz Composers Workshop Showcase

BMI hosted its Annual Jazz Composers Workshop Summer Showcase in New York on June 20. The workshop took place at Leonard Nimoy Thalia Theatre at Symphony Space with the day’s proceedings hosted by Musical Director Andy Farber and Assistant Musical Director Alan Ferber. 

Out of the eight works performed by the BMI/New York Jazz Orchestra, Michael R. Dudley Jr.’s “Infidels” was selected as the winner of the Charlie Parker Jazz Composition Prize by the panel of judges composed of esteemed jazz artists Adam Birnbaum, Dave Douglas, and Scott Healy. The BMI Foundation additionally awarded Dudley the Manny Albam commission, meaning he will compose a new piece that will premiere at the 2026 showcase.
