Acclaimed Hitmaker Jack Antonoff Wins 2025 ASCAP Pop Music Songwriter of the Year—“Lose Control” Takes Home Song of the Year

Jack Antonoff, the multi-talented songwriter, producer, and artist, is known for his genre-defining collaborations and uncanny ability to tap into the zeitgeist. Now, Antonoff has officially been crowned the 2025 ASCAP Pop Music Songwriter of the Year. The honor comes courtesy of the American Society of Composers, Authors, and Publishers (ASCAP), which annually recognizes the songwriters and publishers behind the most-performed pop songs of the year.

A statement from the company discloses that Antonoff earned the title thanks to six of ASCAP’s most-performed songs of 2024, including Sabrina Carpenter’s viral hit “Please Please Please,” and a string of Taylor Swift tracks that dominated both charts and conversation: “Anti-Hero,” “Fortnight,” “I Can Do It with a Broken Heart,” “Is It Over Now? (Taylor's Version) (From the Vault)” and “Karma.”

But the night wasn’t all about Jack. “Lose Control,” the soulful, genre-blending breakout by Teddy Swims, was named ASCAP Pop Music Song of the Year. Co-written by ASCAP songwriter Joshua "Ammo" Coleman, the track shattered records by becoming the longest-running song in the Billboard Hot 100’s Top 10—a staggering 58 weeks.

A statement from ASCAP notes that the song “continues to see success,” powered by its “eclectic mix of soul, rock and Motown-style R&B.” It's published by Kobalt Music and Top Notch High Quality Music—both of which are likely considering reinforced trophy shelves at this point.

Meanwhile, the powerhouse behind many of the year’s most-streamed hits, Sony Music Publishing, took home ASCAP Pop Music Publisher of the Year. Their contributions include fan-favorites like Shaboozey’s “A Bar Song (Tipsy),” Dua Lipa’s “Houdini,” Beyoncé’s “Texas Hold ‘Em,” and Kendrick Lamar’s mic-drop moment, “Not Like Us.”

Other notable songwriters recognized this year include:

  • Amy Allen for work on “Espresso” and “Feather”
  • Chappell Roan with “Good Luck, Babe!” and “Hot to Go!”
  • Dan Nigro, frequent collaborator with Olivia Rodrigo
  • Dua Lipa, who continues her synth-pop reign with “Houdini” and “Illusion”
  • Justin Timberlake, honored for “Selfish”
  • Noah Kahan with the folk-pop smash “Stick Season”
  • Victoria Monét, celebrated for the smooth and stylish “On My Mama”

This year’s winners were celebrated at an exclusive event in Los Angeles, where ASCAP—notably the only U.S. performing rights organization founded and governed by music creators—brought together industry leaders to honor the artists shaping the sound of now.

The ASCAP Pop Music Awards determine their winners using performance data sourced from radio, satellite, and streaming platforms, as measured by Luminate Data LLC.
