The Bob Moog Foundation has announced its latest fundraising initiative: a raffle for a fully restored vintage Minimoog Model D synthesizer, signed by music legend Todd Rundgren.
A statement from the company discloses that the instrument, serial number 4605, was originally manufactured at Moog Music’s Williamsville, NY factory. Along with his signature, Rundgren added the inscription “Moog = Synthesizer” to the back of the synth, underscoring its central place in modern music history.

Raffle tickets are priced at $25 each, with bundle options of 5 for $100, 12 for $200, and 35 for $500. The raffle opens September 8, 2025, and closes September 29, 2025, at 11:59 p.m. EST. It is open internationally, with proceeds benefiting the Foundation’s educational and archival projects.
Since its commercial debut in 1970, the Minimoog has been celebrated for making modular synthesis more accessible while maintaining its powerful sound. A statement from the company discloses that Rundgren and longtime collaborator Roger Powell made frequent use of Moog instruments in the 1970s with Utopia, as well as in Rundgren’s solo work.

Reflecting on the instrument’s significance, Rundgren noted, “The Moog modular synthesizer and the Minimoog helped define my sound. I am thrilled to have signed this fully restored vintage Minimoog for the Bob Moog Foundation in support of their educational efforts, including Dr. Bob’s SoundSchool, which inspires thousands of elementary school students through sound every year.”
Funds raised from the raffle will support the Foundation’s three main initiatives:
- Dr. Bob’s SoundSchool, which has reached over 35,000 elementary students with science-of-sound education.
- The Moogseum in Asheville, NC, an interactive museum opened in 2019 that has welcomed more than 45,000 visitors and continues to recover from the financial impact of Hurricane Helene.
- The Bob Moog Foundation Archives, which preserve materials related to Bob Moog’s life and work.
