The Spirits on Fire Tour came to a close at the Hollywood Bowl, featuring Poppy and co-headliners Jane’s Addiction and The Smashing Pumpkins.
Opener Poppy (led by frontwoman Moriah Rose Pereira) creates art without boundaries, bringing high energy to songs dabbling in indie/pop, nu-metal angst, and straight-ahead K-pop.
Jane’s Addiction frontman Perry Farrell exclaimed (clad in a cowboy costume), “This is our homecoming, we’re gonna fuck you up. Motherfuckers, we’ve been waiting for this.” The group, often associated with Los Angeles, performed a retrospective of their 40-year career.
The Smashing Pumpkins debuted songs from ATUM, a 33-track sequel to 1995’s Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness and 2000’s Machina/Machine of God. Act 2 of ATUM will be released on January 31, 2023. Act 3 along with a special edition boxset featuring all 33 album tracks plus 10 additional unreleased songs, will be released on April 21, 2023, also available for pre-order HERE.
The most unexpected collaboration of the night saw Willow Smith take the stage to play rhythm guitar on “Cherub Rock.”
