John Demitro: The guitar riff that absolutely blew my mind first time hearing it was Black Sabbath’s “Symptom of the Universe.” The tonality, dropped tuned heaviness, and ferociousness of the riff still inspires me as a songwriter and guitarist today. Way ahead of their time.
It also helps to blast it when you’re driving. Makes it very hard to not wanna go 100mph in the van.
